Hptm Fritz Gehring, 7/KG 26

Gehring, St Kap of 7/KG 26, was presumably lost in a Ju 188 which crashed at Lavangsfjord on 2 May 45. He is buried at Narvik-are the rest of his crew buried there also and if so, what are their names?

Hello Chris

This day. Hptm Friedrich-Wilh. Gehring, (probably flying a Ju 188 A-3 WNr.unk.) was on a Verlegungsflug southwards from airfield Bardufoss in North-Norway to airfield Vaernes in Central-Norway. This very experienced pilot and leader was flying alone in bad weather avoiding the inland route and was flying well off the coastline. However something went wrong and it crashed into fjord Lavang, appx. 40km N of Narvik, county Troms

His crew was:
Ofw. Willi Drabe
Fw, Benno Boksch
Uffz. Walter Peters
Fw. Josef Proske

All probably buried in cemetery Narvik.

Greetings from Norway

Knut

Re: Hptm Fritz Gehring, 7/KG 26

Knut - Chris,

While searching the 'volksbund' website I could find 4 of the 5 names listed as buried at the Narvik cem. Just Fw. Benno Boksch search was uneventfull. Perhaps his name isn't correctly spelled (Benno could be officialy Bernhard ?) or perhaps he is still missing in action ?
