Re: Photos + 1-9

Even better - nice photo btw - anyone have any ideas as to the WNr. for SKZ 'RF+VD' or 'RF+VB'? That's my interpretation of the visible SKZ letters.

As for the place, I believe that it was Siverskiy. In the far back you can see the water tower, situated in the forest outside of the airfield perimeter, while the building on the right hand side is the general staff building, visible from the public road. Some buildings there have not changed that much since the 1930's after all.

Hi Sidney,

As for first part of your comment ... Nothing to add; good old common sense.
As for the second part. I agree ... after checking; Siverskiy!

Cheers, Franck.

Re: Photos + 1-9

Hello!

As far as I remember the Pleskau Bf 109 picture ("nr 2") is the first which I have seen showing the airfield buildings. That was my first reaction. Such rarity may also have been a factor for the price hike? I can only hope the picture really has been taken at Pskov/Pleskau/Pihkva.

As Staffelführer is in the caption (on original???) the picture may have been taken at some important occasion?

My two cents,
Kari

Re: Photos + 1-9

If you have a copy of Prien, Stemmer and others JFV 9/I, page 241, photo 177, you will find the same scenery and the building in question just visible on the left hand side. Siverskiy, that is. So this would be a Bf 109 F-4 aircraft to which the Gruppe converted in February/March 1942.

Sinisa
