Luftwaffe Flack markings

The photo taken sometime late 1941 NE of Lvov (Lemberg )
of a relatively newer Luftwaffe flack unit carrying Russian and
possibly RAF markings on their gun ( possibly Bofors). The
unit moved from Germany through Romania and towards NE
Ukraine , was not involved on the Western Front and didn't
score any RAF or Allied aircrafts in Germany or Austria.

Interested to know on how the contact with RAF aircrafts
was made .They were about to paint their 9th Russian
aircraft.

Re: Luftwaffe Flack markings

If the FLAK - Fliegerabwehrkanone - (i.e., not FLACK) unit was based in Romania, there might be an off-chance that it was briefly involved in the Balkanfeldzug in April-May 1941, so it might have made the "contact" with the RAF aircraft somewhere over Greece.

Also, not sure that the gun on the photo was exactly the 40 mm Bofors gun.

Re: Luftwaffe Flack markings

The barrel looks very large for 40mm. Are the roundels different? Perhaps the left one is British and the right one French?

Re: Luftwaffe Flack markings

If the first two roundels were different, a possible explanation for the anomaly is that the Hellenic (i.e., Greek) air force used blue-white-blue roundels on its aircraft.

Re: Luftwaffe Flack markings

It is a 8,8 cm Flak

A lot of the German anti-aircraft units got moved around all the time. The two roundels could be french or british

Re: Luftwaffe Flack markings

Perhaps the "Free French" then since the introductory part stated that the unit did not participate in the Westfeldzug?
