Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi Steve,
You're breaking new ground here! Until now, I had as a reference Anders Hjørtsberg's statement this pic was taken at Kassel-Waldau, unit unknown. The background barracks do look familiar with other Neubiberg pics indeed. As for the plane itself, it has the characteristic low-spine camouflage line of either Erla or WNF produced Bf 109 G-10's. The plain underwing Balkenkreuz does point though to either an WNF or a Mtt built machine. Lots of uncertainties here, also compounded by the tactical markings as well: the low contrast white outlined "13" could be consistent with a NAG machine too, and we're deprived on this shot from any clear indication what the fuselage colors were behind the fuselage Balkenkreuz.... A really tantalizing plane indeed. Thanks so much for your input, hoping that further details will emerge so we can pinpoint that particular G-10! Cheers Marc |

??? Of course the same machine, but not the same picture, where we cannot see the interesting part ... What an evidence! |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Thanks to David Litton, over on facebook.com, We have again an interesting - for me - new case:
www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/15281954402/ Could "Schwarze 2" be an elusive Erla built Bf 109 K-4 ? Which possible unit ? Thanks in advance! Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Correct, Franck: in the mean tim, and thanks to a lead from Anders, I tracked back the culprit: Fw. Willy Rühl, 14./JG 300 ;-)
Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr. unknown "Schwarze 2", Lt. Willy Rühl, 14./JG 300, Reinsdorf, early March 1945. Source: Lorant et Goyat 2005, p. 212. www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/11465698265 Cheers Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi there Gang,
Hi there Gang, This one is pretty baffling for me: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Deut-Jagdflug...item4d2465e7e1 A very interesting III./JG 77 machine, which at first sight I would have passed as an early Bf 109 G....But beware! Erla Haube and late III./JG 77 Wolf emblem... Seems thus to be an Erla built G-6/AS or G-14/AS, IMHO. Any ideas as to when and where (Wien-Seyring, August 1944 (?). Cheers Marc |

Hello Marc, no K-4, but rather a regular B f109 F. You can see the middle part of the three-piece canopy with a narrow framing and also the slim and tall antenna-mast on top of the fuselage. No trace of the FuG 16 ZY wip-antenna under the wing. Using a little photoshoping, you may also recognize the old style Balkenkreuz on top of the left wing with a black-colored center. CRL

Many thanks Carl and David for bringing me back to reality! Goodbye late war Erla low-vis camouflage, back to basics of 109'ology...
Much appreciated! Marc |

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
And now with a real late-war Bf 109:
www.flickr.com/photos/28092068@N03/15324578205/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...n/photostream/ By courtesy of David Weiss, here are two pics of a very wet Bf 109. IMHO, it seems to be a WNF built Bf 109 G-14/AS. Any ideas about location, date, and if it was attributed to a unit? Thanks in advance Marc |
