He 111 lost 3-12-1943

GQM dated 29-12-1943 page 4 has the loss to fighter action of a He 111 H at Civita- Castellana on 3-12-43 giving the unit as RestKommando KGr.z.b.V. 25 , crew details :-

Ff Fw Karl Schmidt + dob 1-6-18
Bf Uffz Walter Bretthauer + born 1920
Bm Gef Georg Hanchen + Umlaut over 'a' dob 21-3-23
Bs Ofw Heinz Seemann + dob 11-6-15

The Grabesuche site gives the date of death of these airmen as 3-12-1943 with all being buried at Pomezia in separate graves. A previous thread said 8 passengers were also all killed in the crash. Are any more details known about the fighter action and the unit , I thought KGr.z.b.v.25 was not operational at this time ,

Thanks

I'm not sure thats necessarily incompatible with a Restkommando still flying. The word implies a detachment "left over" or "remaining" after the main body has gone.

Christopher Shores with others in their Volume IV of the series of books entitled A History of the Mediterranean Air War 1940 - 1945, on page 457 allocate the claim to the US 522 FBS/27 FBG, Maj. J.A. Kelly, flying A-36.
