Re: Something unique

Hi,

Looks postwar to me at a first glance. But you never know.

After a quick check in the Classic Me 163 volumes I couldn't find "Josef Dreher" mentioned (index).

Also, although I am German speaking, what should "fenern" in "Wir fenern mit sieherer Hand" mean? In addition, it should say "sicherer" instead of "sieherer". Looks suspicious to me....

Regards
Roger

Re: Something unique

If the owner is Johann Dreher who became POW in March 1945, it may be a post war item. However, in that case, I do not know who could have the guts to put a swastika on a mug after the war.

Good day.

Hi Roger and e0760256,

Beyond your points, may I also say that the mug looks absolutely new. Not one scratch, as if never washed after use....

Cheers

Marc

Re: Something unique

It is not absolutely new. There is wear on it and it is clear that it had been kept in a storage for some time. I have been collecting Korean War period mugs for years and most of them were in better condition than this one.

Good day as everyday.

Re: Something unique

Well, gentlemen - keep your hands away from this fake. Probably manufactured in the far east. Roger already has mentioned it, the text is the second verse of the Nazi fighter song and "fenern" should originally read feuern(fire your arms) and "sieherer Hand" reads sicherer Hand (steady hand). Such a sloppy job carried out on the mug would have never been accepted by a german-speaking orderer, simply because the text printed on the mug does not make sense

Re: Something unique

As there are nightfighter victory marks (8) on the mug, I checked my NJG databases and found Hauptmann Johann Dreher, not Josef and known for 7 nocturnal victories (last mentioned info comes from Theo Boiten)... As far as we know Johann Dreher was not involved with JG 400 at all.
