Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Hello Gentlemen!
Friend of my found this ID tag near Baltic sea shore in sand about a year ago. Is it possible to check out pilot info? Unfortunately it was found without any additional finds as plane parts etc. Hope that pilot is not MIA. Best regards. |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
This is his last reported crash, whose NVM has survived, but this is too far from the Baltic Sea. Maybe this part of disc was lost in the spring of 1945:
1944-02-16, 1./JG 54, Bf 109 F-4, 7041, 60 km nördlich Dorpat (Pl.Qu. 85396) Flugzeugführer Uffz Lotz, Arthur, verletzt Überschlag bei Notlandung. Bruch ? %. Suggest that you send an inquiry to the WASt: http://www.dd-wast.de/de/antrag-stel...er-person.html Matti |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Good evening,
from "JG 54: A Photographic History of the Grünherzjäger" (Held, Trautloft, Bob) is this excerpt: "[..] Heino Cordes, Arthur Lotz and Hans Gott were the last pilots to leave the pocket with their aircraft. " on 8 May 1945, flying from Cirava across the Baltic sea to Flensburg. Best, Uwe K. |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Hello Matti,
according to the JFV Vol. 9/I and 9/II the Bf 109 F-4 WNr. 7041 was damaged on 16 Febr 1942 (1./JG 54, Uffz Arthur Lotz verletzt) and on 30 May 1942 (6./JG 52, 75%). Regards Leo |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Hello,
The MOB number on the ID tag suggest that the pilot was a member of 1.(Ergänzungs)Jagd-Gruppe Ost, later 1./JagdGruppe Ost und Nord, or 1.(Ergänzungs)/JG 1 |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Yes, 1./JGr Ost, somewhere issued around Oct 1943 would be my guess.

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
Yes, originally issued by 1./JGr. Ost, but later on Uffz Arthur Lotz was serving in 1./JG 54 wearing this EKM number. EKM numbers were not frequently changed when somebody was transferred to a new unit. During the last months of war some pilots were still wearing in operational flights their original, open EKMs issued by schools etc.
MOB 59739 EKMs were issued as follows: 1./JGr. Ost: 59739/1 - 59739/631 (1942 - July 1944) 1./JGr. Nord: 59739/632 - 59739/743 (Sep - Oct 1944) 1./Erg.JG 1: 59739/744 - 59739/835 (Dec 1944 - March 1945) The dates are approximate. Matti |

Re: Luftwaffe pilot ID tag.
As my friend said: it was found in sands just in Baltic sea shore and the Cirava airfield is nearby.
