Do217 2./KG101 lost off Novgorod June 1943

Hello, friends!

In Soviet wartime newspaper was mentioned Do217 from 2./KG101 (maybe II./KG101) downed near Volhov (Novgorod area) in June 1943. Whole crew become POW, mentioned Karl Hemschel (transliterated from Russian "Карл Хемшель", maybe incorrect). Who know details (and reality at all) of this event?

Best regards,
Andrey

Andrey,

In Larry deZeng and Doug Stankey's "Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe 1939-45 Vol 2" there is reference to a Do 217E-4 of II./KG 101 being lost to AA fire over Volkhov on 8 June.

Additional question about status of II./KG101 in May-Aug.1943 (Flugplatz Pleskau-Sued) - battle or training unit? And its tasks and losses during May-Aug.1943 are interesting.

Best regards,
Andrey
