Raymond 'Cheval' Lallemant - 609 Sqn

Is there a specific reason why his name is spelled "Lallemand" in the British archives, even in his own combat reports?

Thanks.

Chris

Hello Chris

Interesting this one - I have a personally signed copy of "Rendez-vous d'un jour 6 Juin 44" and "Rendez-vous avec le destin" both from the hand of the author, Colonel R Lallemand himself, and of course they are in French, so he was obviously happy for Lallemand to be used in French language publications, as well as British combat reports!?

Back in the late 80s I asked Col Lallemand/t "why the name change ?" He explained it was to avoid the similarity with 'the German' in French. I don't know when the change took place and in which circumstances it was applied.
