Re: Some enlarged and 'tweaked' known photos of Me 262s

Thank you, Dan. What misled me is what appears to be a curlicue which I had never seen on a Luftwaffe "5". I have changed the caption accordingly.

Re: Some enlarged and 'tweaked' known photos of Me 262s

Gents,

The small digit under the JG 7 Geschwaderwappen is green with a white outline as seen on other Stab/JG 7 machines. Known machines are Green 1 (x3), Green 2, Green 3, Green 4 and Green 5. Strength returns indicate the possibility of a sixth aircraft.

Cheers

David

52. A line-up of JV 44 training aircraft at Brandenburg-Briest probably in March 1945. L. to R.: Me 262 B-1a White S (identity unknown to me), Me 262 A-1a White 1 (identity unknown to me) and Me 262 A-1a Red Q (identity unknown to me). Note: all three carry the individual aircraft code in the fighter unit position on the rear fuselage in front of the balkenkreuz.

53. Possibly another view of Red Q.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=846

54. Me 262 A-1a W.Nr. 110556 Red S of JV 44 possibly at Brandenburg-Briest in March 1945.

55. Me 262 A-1a W.Nr. 111588 White 5 of JV 44 possibly at Brandenburg-Briest in March 1945.

56. Robert Forsyth in Jagdverband 44 Squadron of Experten, (2008), p. 40 labels this photograph as "Oberfeldwebel Leopold Knier of JV 44 looks on as fellow pilots and ground crew push an Me 262 back towards the dispersal stand at München-Riem in early April 1945." Note the unusually small dark 8 on the nose.

#55 - what is the significance of what appears to be 17 painted at the base of the rudder of 111588?

Re: Some enlarged and 'tweaked' known photos of Me 262s

It has been suggested that, as this symbol with different numbers have been seen on other Me 262s, that it was used either in the assembling process or by repair shops to match parts to the proper aircraft.

#55

for info Eduard Schallmoser's "white 5" during Mar 45 was WNr. 111745 .. presumably a different machine

57. Me 262 A-1a W.Nr. 111740 White 6 and W.Nr. 111746 White 3 operational with JV 44 at München-Riem.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=850

58. A poor photograph of W.Nr. 111746 White 3.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=851

59. A line-up of Me 262 A-1as of JV 44 at München-Riem in April 1945. L. to R.: W.Nr. 111745 White 5, W.Nr. 111740 White 6 and W.Nr. 111746 White 3.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=852

60. Another view of the same line-up. Robert Forsyth identifies the tall pilot in the forage cap as Eduard Schallmoser.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=853

61. An oblique frontal view of Me 262 A-1a W.Nr. 111745 White 5 of JV 44.

Re: Some enlarged and 'tweaked' known photos of Me 262s

62. Wide-open hangar doors allowed a blanket of snow to accumulate under Me 262 A-1a/Jabo (werknummer unknown to me) B3+IK of 2./KG(J) 54. Note the tarpaulins of matching camouflage.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=859

63. Another view of B3+IK. Hidden in the shadows behind it is another Me 262 that has a Red 7 on its nose gear door. Note the damage to the hangar.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=860

64. Ofw. Friedrich Gentsch stands in front of Me 262 A-1a (werknummer unknown to me) B3+BC [Green B] of Stab II./KG(J) 54 at Neuburg an der Donau in March 1945.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=861

65. The white nose cap followed by a black ring and then a wider yellow one indicates that this Me 262 belongs to the first staffel of of the third gruppe of KG(J) 54. Also note that KG(J) 54 aircraft did not carry tail tip colours.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=862

66. Staffelkapitän Oblt. Heinz Rall stands in front of an Me 262 A-1a of 8./KG(J) 54. Note the lack of nose colours/rings for this staffel.

Re: Some enlarged and 'tweaked' known photos of Me 262s

67. Probably Me 262 A-2a W.Nr. 110662 Red 3 of the Ausbuldungs Kommando II./KG(J) 54. Note the broken nose gear door.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=865

68. A poor picture of the same Red 3. It was found by American forces at Moosburg, near Erding, Germany. While the Red 3 is hardly visible, the Yellow 10 that had been painted over is discernable.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=866

69. This very poor photo shows the placing of the smaller than normal Red 3 and the Death's Head wappen on the fuselage. The white/blue karoband of KG(J) 54 is much clearer.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=867

70. A view of the Starboard side of Red 3.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=868

71. Note the broken nose gear door on this horrible photograph. However, the camouflage pattern is the same in the photo below.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=869

72. This view of probably W.Nr. 110662 Red 3 shows the single white gun rectangle and bomb rack of an A-2a. These photos confirm the information about its armament found in the document dated "21.o4.45" at Prague seen on page 146 of Brown etal., Messerschmitt Me 262 Production and Arado Ar 234 Final Operations, (JaPo, 2012).
