Photo French Beute Aircraft
Hello,
Could someone please identify the type of aircraft shown at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/J682-Frankre...kAAOSwmZhgERPU It looks a bit like a Caudron C.59. Are any known to have been impressed in 1939/40? A second photo by the same seller shows Morane Saulnier MS.149 F-AMYV at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/J681-Frankre...QAAOSw8HpgERN3 Regards, Clint Last edited by musec04; 27th January 2021 at 23:58. |

Re: Photo French Beute Aircraft
Looks very much like a C.59 Clint
Heavily used by l'Armée de l'Air, (over 800?) I can only assume some of them remained to be captured. The MS 149 has been shown before, but inside its hangar. Don't know if they thus first pushed it inside and later brought it outside....or vice versa.... Cheers Stig |

Re: Photo French Beute Aircraft
Hi Stig,
Thanks. Do you know if the MS.149 was still at Epinal when the photo was taken? Edit, if so,and it seems likely then the C.59 is likely F-AOXC as both aircraft had been operated by the Aeroclub Vosgien. Vital Ferry in Aviation Populaire ou Aviation Proletaire records F-AOXC as one loaned to the Aeroclub by the the French state as was F-AMYV.Given that, it looks as though neither machines have received tricolores or any other national markings though difficult to be totally certain based on these photos), so perhaps not impressed after all. Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo French Beute Aircraft
Good job Clint ! It is the A/F of Epinal-Dogneville. Same particular roof for the hangar.
Photos included came from Avions n°209 where GAO 548 posted in 39/40. Bertrand Last edited by Bertrand H; 27th March 2021 at 08:43. |

Mureaux?
Could the first photograph show a Mureaux 115 or 117 close recce aircraft? I'm not able to be positive.

Re: Photo French Beute Aircraft
Hello Yves,
I believe we have pretty much established the aircraft is a Caudron C.59, but in case you have any doubts there's currently one from the Spanish Civil War on ebay at: https://www.ebay.it/itm/FOTO-CAUDRON...sAAOSwAyZgE2Zp Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo French Beute Aircraft
Very nice find Clint
The aircraft even carry the top wings of another C.59, F-AJOS. That aircraft was also reportedly captured by the Nationalists the same day in 1938! Looks like they combined two aircraft into one.... Cheers Stig |

Caudron or Mureaux?
Who is that Eve? Are GIRLS allowed here among all those machos? How horrible.
Beneath your Caudron I discovered blonde actress Mylène Demongeot (about 50 years ago) not wearing a lot of cloths. Mmmm... A lot prettier than a Caudron or Mureaux. I had a look at the ebay photos. Not really convincing, very different angle, Caudron radiator grid not visible. I still suspect a Mureaux. PS: OK, now I understand. I was meaning the 1st picture posted DIRECTLY IN THIS THREAD by Bertrand H. Can you see that funny radiator grid and the machine-gun protruding from the propeller spinner? |

Yves
GAO 548 was equipped with ANF-Mureaux 115 when it moved into Epinal-D. Type seems to be confirmed as well with the front radiator visible. Cheers Stig |
