Col.Litton's fate
I am searching detailed info on Col.Litton's fate , former 82nd FG commanding officer in Italy during WWII. While appointed as base commander officer of fighter wing in South Korea on the early 50's, the official USAF records indicate him being killed in a landing incident on the same appointment day . In reality and through various sources I was informed that Col.Litton departed the base ,flew the jet possibly a F-89 or F-86 over water long enough to fuel starvation then radar track was lost on him ending up declared as MIA. A former 82nd FG pilot who flew various missions with him on the ETO described him as having serious personal issues which some time were even pulled all the way to the flight line .Interesting to add, Litton was replacing at the S.Korean base an other Italian theater vet, namely General Rush ex CO 98 BG and later on 47th Wing CO, was a Westpointee and his appointment at 82nd FG was repeatedly challenged .
