Information concerning the Loss Feldwebel Ludwig Merz - 10.04.1945

Hi,

Could anyone provide information concerning the loss of Feldwebel Ludwig Merz on the 10th April 1945.

His death card states he was a pilot in a fighter squadron. Could you tell me with what unit, his aircraft and how he died.

Please see the scan of his death card below.

Many thanks

Rick

Dear Rick,

at the date of his death was a big airfight with Me262 in that area but his name was not given as known pilot.
As you see he weared the "Frontflugspange in Gold". This means he was a very good pilot with a lot of missions. (I think over 300)

Best wishes

Rüdiger

He might have been transfered to a Fallschirmjäger-unit to and been killed on the ground. In March/April 1945 this was not uncommon.

Re: Information concerning the Loss Feldwebel Ludwig Merz - 10.04.1945

I suggested that he was an "Erfahrene" pilot giving some of his experience to trainee-fighter pilots

Rémi

Article suggest, very on the trend to suggest that time, that he is quoted as missing at least for the author, Heinz Kalkowski probably a past member of the JG103

In the picture appearing also, are Uffz Jänichen, Fw kreul JG3 ?? , Kalkowski uffz Kehlinger nd ofw Striedecke

Hi All,
The VDK have just given me this detail on his unit:

Truppenteil; 1./Fl. Kp./K.G. 51

Hope this may help.
Joe
