Which Allied pilot was in battle on 8 May 1941 on Western front
I'm looking for information related to an incident when a Do 215 of Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L. was slightly damaged in an air battle on the Western Front. It appears that one German Crew member lost his life, while damage to aircraft was reported as only 5%. Which Allied pilot/s and units were involved?
The Allied claim could of course have been reported also as a Do 17 for obvious reasons. Best regards /Mikael |

Re: Which Allied pilot was in battle on 8 May 1941 on Western front
Hi Mikael,
Looking at Tony Wood's claims, and assuming that this incident occurred in daylight, a possibility is No. 234 Squadron, which claimed a Do 17 Z damaged between 14:25 and 15:45 south-west of Portland. They attacked this aircraft at 15:30. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com/earticles |

Re: Which Allied pilot was in battle on 8 May 1941 on Western front
Hi Andy,
Thanks for drawing my attention to TOny's list of claims! I actually think that it could concern the Do 215 interception made at 00:40-01:49 on 8 May since 2./Aufkl.Gr.Ob.d.L. had begun making night reconnaissance missions at that time. But obviously since it was easy to mix the Do 215 and the Do 17 there is some insecurity regarding the connection. Best regards /Mike |

If 7-8 May 41, there are too many possibilities-3 destroyed, one probable, one damaged

Could it be possible to eliminate some by checking Do 17 losses and damaged Do 17?

Difficult. A cursory glance shows just one Do 17 lost (from 2/NJG 2 shot down by 25 Sqn near Boston, Lincs) plus the damaged Do 215. The remaining claims were The Wash (25 Sqn), St Albans Head (87 Sqn), SW of Crewe (96 Sqn) and Hull (255 Sqn)
