Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

Hi Chris,

2149 He111 P2 G1+JA GeschStab/KG55 failed to return from Ostfront sortie on 11 July 1941. Lt Karl Doppelhammer (pilot), Fw Fritz Breuig (observer), Fw Herbert Schultze (W/T operator), Gef Max Wied (engineer) and Gef Anton Munster (gunner) all missing.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

David

Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

David, just out of curiosity, do you have the fate of W.Nr 2145 that Chris mentions? I have W.Nr 2146 , 2150.

And Chris, did W.Nr 2145 serve with 3/KG55 with sister a/c 2149? any dates or squadron codes, aircrew attributed?

Best Regs,
Steve.

Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

Steve: I cannot confirm one way or another as you cannot see the codes. All I have are 2 photos from a 3/KG 55 crewman showing the Wk Nrs and the silhouette of a chap in a top hat and carrying an umbrella on the rudder (slightly different on both)

Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

Hi Chris,
Thanks for that, so W.Nr 2145 may have been attached to 3/KG55 at some time early 1940.
Id be interested to learn its fate?

Best Regs,
Steve.

Damaged with 7/KG 55 22 Jun 41 and then 70% in an accident 25 Nov 42 with FFS C13 Brunau. Both were P-2/P-5

Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

Hi,

Regarding 2145.........
G1+CL with 3./KG55 crashed Belgium 27 May 1940, repaired and later with III/KG55 suffered 40% damage due to enemy fire at Slipcze on 23 June 1941.

WNrs 2121 to 2151 were a batch apparently allocated to KG55 as a block.

Any corrections or amendments always welcome!

Regards

David

Re: He 111 Wk Nr 2149

Interesting what you say about 27 May 40. I have a photo of G1+CL and the BF involved on 27 May 40 is a friend of mine. True it did crash-land 20 kms west of Ypres at 1145 hrs but according to the BF, the aircraft was pretty well alight when it crash-landed (4 of the crew were burned in the process). Where did you get the info that 2145 was CL and that it was repaired?
