Re: Heinrich Bartels victims

Hi Michel,

to your entry „11/04/44=1 P-38(Graz) I have also a doubt about the date“:

In a German Abschußmeldung, Abschußnummer/casualty no. ME 1008 the loss of a Lightning, serial unknown, on 11 April 1944 near Graz is confirmed. Crash time 16:32, crash location Stübing northwest of Graz.

Source: MACR monthly list April 1944.

Regards
Leo

Re: Heinrich Bartels victims

Hi Michel

Actually I am also suspicious of Joachim Kirschner especially in the second half of 1943, who would have been Bartel's Kommandeur.

Johannes

P.S funny thing is that Hans-Joachim Marseilles claims pattern is indicative of an over-claimers, yet I believe him honest, sometimes mistaken, but honest. His method of attack was chaotic, therefore even his wingmen could be mistaken.

Re: Heinrich Bartels victims

Hi Gentlemen.
Still on the slow process of tiying to finish off my file on Bartels.
As for his victims of 28 April 1944. The 8th and 9th AFs operate exclusively over France. The 12th and 15th AFs operate mainly around central Italy.
He claimed over Laibach, and that is Ljubljana, Slovenia.
To far off for any P-51s (fighters) of the above mentioned Air Forces to go.
Any Recon Mustangs? RAF? Misidentification? Or something else?

"Also 42-103295/D7- of 503rd FS, 339th FG, Lt. Robert F Mulvey KIA"
I have a "application for headstone or marker" for Robert F. (Francis) Mulvey, it does not correspond to him being KIA. He was discharged in 1945, died in 1958, from Lowell Mass. USA. Belonged to the 503FS, 339FG, he was shot down 21 May 1944. Any thoughts on these discrepancies?
