Sgt Ron Tucker 235 Sqn lost 18 July 1940
Hi guys
Perusing Andrew Bird's COASTAL DAWN, he writes that observer Sgt Ron Tucker, who was lost on 18 July 1940, had previously survived being shot down in a 219 Squadron Blenheim by a Spitfire. I haven't been able to locate such an action. Can anyone help? Cheers Brian |

Hi Brian,
Came from 235 Unofficial Diary via Chris, and an interview with Jackson-Smith in 2010. Regards Andy Bird |

Re: Sgt Ron Tucker 235 Sqn lost 18 July 1940
Hi Brian and Andy,
This incident occurred on July 3rd 1940. Tucker was crewed with Ken Worsdell. They took off from Catterick in Blenheim L1168 (Red section) to intercept an X-Raid (X49) at 13:15. They were attacked by two spitfires and sustained damage to their starboard engine oil tank. Gerry |

Re: Sgt Ron Tucker 235 Sqn lost 18 July 1940
Hello all,
resurrecting this old thread. Does anyone know which Spitfire squadron were the culprits ? 41 Squadron were also based at Catterick at this time. The excellent history of 41 Squadron, 'BLOOD,SWEAT and COURAGE' by Steve Brew notes no such incident but they had two sections airborne around the time of the attack (1.56 p.m.). One section landed 1.51 p.m. and the other at 2.04 p.m. Any help appreciated. Regards, Martin Gleeson. |
