Losses two Ju 88
Hello,
I look for the loss of two Ju 88 on the night of 6 to 7 Dec. 1942. At 8:05 p.m. to 5 miles (8 kilometers) southwest of Mannheim. The rear gunner, of Halifax, opened fire at 300 yards (275 meters) and fired a burst for five seconds. The left engine exploded and the left wing caught fire and then separated. The Ju 88 was seen the last time, plunging in flames. The Halifax plunged veering to the right. The Halifax then plunged veering to the left. The upper gunner opened fire at 300 yards (275 meters) and fired a burst for five seconds. While the Ju 88 was approaching on the right, his right wing and engine were seen in flames. When the Ju 88 came back again, pulling the Halifax plunged two long bursts and Ju 88 caught fire on the left wing. The Ju 88 was now a mass of flames and fell off out of control. He was seen touching the ground by several members of the crew. Pilot: Flying Lieutenant LINDSAY Dorsal turret gunner: Sergeant LILLY WHITE. Rear gunner turret: MCLEAN Sergeant. 102 Squadron. RAF Pocklington

Re: Losses two Ju 88
The date for this loss, you are requesting, must be wrong.
During that night the RAF attacked Brest and dropped areal mines at the North Sea coast. No attack on targets in central Germany and also no use of Halifax bombers that night.

Definitely 6-7 Dec 42 Mannheim. In my research into 102 Sqn, no German losses which is supported by Theo Boiten

Re: Losses two Ju 88
Dan,
sorry for the misunderstanding, my eyes stopped at the wrong line (6./7.02.42). For the night of 6./7.12.42 there is only one report for a Do 217J from 2./NJG 3, which hit the ground near Wittmundhafen. There are no combat losses for the German night fighter force that night.
