German Transport units in the East 1943-1944

Hi,

I've been trying to collect data of the LW's activity on the Eastern front in the latter part of the war, but unfortunately, I can't find details about the activity of transport units, although they should have been somewhat active over the Black sea or to supply the german pockets of resistance in the summer 1944...

Could somebody tell me which LW's transport gruppen operated in the East at the time or where I could find information about this ?

Thanks in advance,

Kolya.

Hi,

the standard book for transport arm is Morzik's studies for US after the war. Here is the link

http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/number...s/studies4.asp

You need number 167.

Best regards

There were plenty of units, except glider units. Excluding two Italian Transport Units - Transportgruppe 10 (I Gruppo Trasporti Terracciano) and Transportgruppe 110 (II Gruppo Trasporti Trabucchi). Morzik is one of best books but better than English version is German one which is larger and has more interesting information. Georg Schlaug wrote several excellent books and articles on Glider Units and Supply Operations on East Front, for example an article about supply missions to Kovno or Breslau.

If you have interest, I am studying KTB III./KG 53 where is described almost 30 supply operation, mainly Tarnopol and Vilnius. Drop me private e-mail and I will see what I can do for you.

I started studying Morzik's book, and it contains lots of interesting things.

Many thanks to both of you.
