Photo French Beute Aircraft

Currently on ebay is a photo of a french aircraft with German markings at:

Thanks very much for the response. I'm happy to accept your answer, but for future reference on my part could you tell me how you distinguished it a a C.480 rather than say a member of the C.280 series or a C.510?

With regard to the location, the same seller has a photo of a Salmson D.6 Cri Cri which I've posted on the Allied board. I'd previously seen a photo of the Salmson which included JG 53 in the caption, so if they were based anywhere near Brittany - as indicated by the Aeroclub de Quimper on the Salmson, does that help with the location at all.Alternatively, are JG 53 known to have either captured or even operated a C.480?

If you look at the strut arrangement on the C.280 versions and compare that to the V arrangement on the 480, you can see the difference.

Caudron reverted to the earlier arrangement with their later 510.
The V pattern was otherwise a typical DH arrangement, hence my confusion.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, looking at photos of the C.280 and C.510 I can see that the C.480 in the ebay photo has, in fact very different struts and the panel photos were helpful too.Thanks again.

As soon as I saw the photo I knew it was a French Caudron design and not a British De Haviland 85 which has the same V wing struts and long under-carriage struts high on the fuselage close to the cockpit region of which I have one ex-French example in German markings. I had reason to believe that the Germans had another different Caudron C480 but had not seen any photos until now.
Sorry I cannot add anything to your Salmson D.6 Cri Cri questions and JG 53 other than fighter squadrons did acquire (unoficaially) odd types to use as Unit 'hacks'.

Thanksfor thew reply. From idle curiosity was the ex-French DH.85 you refer to assigned to a unit? Also was it formerly one of the DALAC operated machines covered by Matt Comas in the latest edition of Avions No.236?
