Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

The late H.J. Nowarra published a couple of photos of a "Z" in his history of the type published in 1979, in which he claimed the code was "DG+DY." If Nowarra's information is correct, it would/could mean the serial number was 2709. Nowarra's photos clearly show the first two letters of the code, but the second two are difficult to read precisely. However, given the alternatives (DG+DW, DX), I'd say he was right.

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

We have a thread on He111Z Sktz over on the LEMB here, especially with regards DG+DY and a list that appeared in Jet&Prop 1/03 along with a follow up article in a Jet&Prop issue in 2003... so clarification would be helpful to us too

Cheers

Thumbs up Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

Hi thanks yours reply
All contributions and help are really precious !
Sure,we need continue to work about, it's note easy ...

Lake, i think too with Rémy wk nummer for z série finish with 2706 (3225&29 excepted)

Peter, in first myself i prefer to considere as possible only codes confirmeds by pictures ... (just one choice for try to understand)
Iinterressant LEMB thread about SKZ !!!
I have found all books and magazines about, essentials for pics, but copy and paste create sometimes some problems ..
DG+DY not easy, myself i never found any pics from one He 111 z with DG+DT,(this SKZ was given in Jetprop n°5, ... i found other errors inside, not easy sometime to make a good reading between U and V, and Y & V, i have same problems as contributors in Lemb Threads ).
Ebay is real source for help the research, pictures are essentials, second source (perhaps best source) for to be sure, when the skz or wk nummer was wrote in germans originals documents (about loss or others ...)
So, it's not secret, sometimes we found some errors (type or transcription) in originals and officials German's documents .

Note good pic for DG+DY in Luftwaffe colors 'transporter, (in attachment)

Bsrg, Dan

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

Hello all

Excuse me for jumping in late with this one.

As each Z aircraft was made from a joining of 2 exising airframes, was the werk nummer given new or was one of the exising werk nummers used. If so what were the werk nummers/stammkennzeichens of the doner aircraft.

All the information I have read indicate that at least 14 doner aircraft were used plus 10 from new production.

Each He111Z I have read about only quote one werk nummer and one stammkennzeichen which leaves some lost information.

Hope somebody has an idea.

Regards

Colin

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

According to the RLM Flugzeug-Programm Nr. 223 of 15.9.1943, the He 111Z is listed in the conversion programm (Umbau flugzeuge) with 10 aircraft all converted by Heinkel and from He 111H-6 aircraft taken directly from the production line. All 10 aircraft were delivered before 31.3.1943.
The He 111Z was never a part of the regular production programm of new aircraft, only the conversion programm.

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

I think I understand what Colin is driving at.

So far we have 12 He 111Z (WNr 2695-2706), which means we have 24 airframes, which in turn means we ought to have 24 WNr....

If these 24 airframes were taken from the production line they could either have been taken before or after a WNr was assigned. From the face of it, it looks like only half of the frames were assigned a WNr and the other half was not.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

Thanks Guys for the input.

If the German aircraft industry employed the same method as the British and US, then the werk nummer (tail number/MSN as now used) would be allocated to the airframe when it started the assembly sequence. This is/would be used to monitor the configuration of the aircraft.

From the information I have, sketchy as it may be, the werk nummers quoted were in a block assigned to the H-1 varient. I also read that the first two prototypes were converted from H-4s with the rest from H-6s.

It is a puzzle.

Colin

Re: Heinkel 111 Z Prodlist (Update)

Hello,
Are the losses/crash sites of the remaining "Z"s known?

Best,
Piotr
