A Geschwader Bongart Reggiane Re 2002 in color

Together with an Erla built Bf 109 G-6 or G-14, this Re 2002 filmed at a yet to determine location. Could it be Lyon-Bron ?
http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65...tinel-aircraft

Other colour films of those returning US Air Force internees from Switzerland do show Annecy-Meythet airfield (74), close to Geneva (22 miles out).

Cheers
Marc

It's not obviously Lyon-Bron (no sign of the bombed-out hangars where two other Re 2002 were filmed and photographed). A shame that there is no Werk Nummer visible on the fin to help track it down.

Ah Nick, we know our plight: never or only seldom the right identification elements on the screen...

Fortunately, the landscape features are clear enough: thanks to Jacques Strübi, over on "Bf 109 from Anton to Toni" Group on FB, this film was made at Valence airfield.

Cheers

There were three possible candidates at Valence: http://www.ghostbombers.com/Bongart/GB_25.html

Thanks Nick,

W.Nr. 1252 "DV+BE" seems to fit well the "complete (sic) burnt out" description.
Any ideas about the Bf 109 unit ?

Cheers

There were six Bf 109 wrecks at Valence. It is not the one listed as "no engine found" (it has an engine). It does not seem to be the one noted as "rudder yellow" (I see no fabric remaining on the rudder). The other four had spirals on their spinners (and it looks as if this one has lost its spinner). A mystery!

Re: A Geschwader Bongart Reggiane Re 2002 in color

As a follow-up, here another criticalpast colour film with another Geschwader Bongart Re 2002, seen at Valence - La Trésorerie, August 1944:
http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65...erman-aircraft

According to the descriptions given here
http://www.ghostbombers.com/Bongart/GB_25.html

this should be W.Nr. 1222: "Swastika painted on fuselage and wings. All nameplates changed to German; camouflage — olive green and duck-egg blue mottled. Spinner black with white spiral overpainted. Cockpit badly burnt out by ignition of fuel tank. Aircraft shot up from front."

Cheers
