RAF (?) Crash 29 Oct 1943 - Al Qatn, E.A.P. (Yemen)
I refer to Item 2021 of the Eastern Aden Protectorate Intelligence Summaries No. 50 for October 1943 (page 415), which can be viewed here:
https://www.qdl.qa/en/archive/81055/...17980.0x000010 Text points to an unspecified crash at Al Qatn (now Yemen) on 29 October 1943. RAF likely. Named F/O Costegan in reality F/O G.H. Costigan, who was attached to RAF HQ Middle East? Any leads welcome, thanks. Regards, Leendert |

Alex,
Thanks, but it's nevertheless Costigan and not Costegan for 89717 (see e.g. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...e/566/data.pdf or https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/.../1314/data.pdf) Regards, Leendert |

I think this is "possibly" him:
https://www.newspapers.com/clip/1214...acton-gazette/ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/1215...acton-gazette/ I believe in Egypt he was a scholar studying Coptic Christianity and Coptic Art. He may have written (or translated) some books on those subjects. |

Hi Leendert, have now corrected my typo error.
Thanks for noticing it. Alex |

Thanks for more details about George Costigan. Unfortunately no further references found so far about the crash itself. A light transport type comes to my mind.
RAF Al Qatn was a small staging post, saw heightened activity in 1944 for famine relief flights. Regards, Leendert |
