Swordfish of 830 Sqn 16/2/1941
Hi,
Colleagues, Please help me find out how the Swordfish aircraft of the 830th Squadron sank the Italian ship Juventus 16/2/1941. You need to know the number of aircraft attacked, the time of the attack, the composition of the Italian convoy and how many hits there were. |

Re: Swordfish of 830 Sqn 16/2/1941
I can't find anything on the composition of the convoy. A picture of her after the attack is here: http://www.naviearmatori.net/ita/foto-242176-1.html
Attached the F.A.A. material on the attack. This was the first night time attack by 830 Squadron F.A.A. with torpedoes. All the best Andreas

Re: Swordfish of 830 Sqn 16/2/1941
Hello,
From AB's "FAA Aircraft 1939-1945" I found the following a/c serials of 830 Sqn that MAY fit the Aircraft in Squadron letters given in Andreas's post attachment's. "A" - K8361 and P4085. "K" - K6005. "N" - K5945, K5949 and L2833. "S" - K8866, but this was lost 13/12/40. Could not see another "S". Alex |

Although this is a description of another attack - Juventus was torpedoed after midnight on February 16th, this is a very interesting battle. |

Re: Swordfish of 830 Sqn 16/2/1941
Some info from Lorenzo Colombo:
Background on the attack: http://www.naviearmatori.net/ita/foto-242176-1.html Photo of half-sunken Juventus, mislabeled as Pietro Querini:https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/i...ject/205023058 Juventus was owned by the a subsidiary of FIAT, which used it to promote its maritime diesel engines. She was named after Juventus FC, the football club owned by the Agnelli family (owners of FIAT). All the best Andreas
