Messerschmitt Bf 110C from Werknummer 14xx-range

This photo:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=310044829204

from Ed's latest listing apparently shows a Bf 110C from Stab I./ZG 76 with the characteristic fighetr-style chevron marking. I am pretty sure this is not the machine with similar markings seen in Norway in May/June 1940, as that was Bf 110D-0, although the similarity is quite remarkable (although a green individual letter seem to be lacking on this one). Ed's photo was perhaps taken in Poland or just after.

The interesting part has to do with the Werknummer which is presumably the number written on the fuselage cross (1432). I cannot find a 14xx-block in Mankau & Petrick book on the Zerstörers (quite apart from the block 1344-1401), so is this number something else or do we have an unknown (unpublished) Werknummer block here?

Andreas Brekken tells me he has one Bf 110C-1 listed in this block, which indicates the photo was taken just after the Polish campaign, but prior to the Norwegian campaign, as the Stab seem to have been completely equipped with D-0s immediately following Weserübung

That number is not necessarily the W. Nr.. It could well be a numerical indicator as to what should happen to the airframe, ie, recyle/repair/scrap.

Thanks, John.

Then it would make more sense to me. Was doubtful this was a Werknummer.
