Hs126 shot down by German destroyer 2/9/39

Hi guys

I have a note that an Hs126 was shot down by a German destroyer on 2 September 1939 off the Polish coast.

Can anyone confirm this and, if so, provide unit and identity/fate of crew?

Cheers
Brian

Probably it was Hs 126 (P2+MK) from the 2.(H)/21; crew: Olt. Heinz Rehdanz, Olt. Wilhelm Schmidt. This Henschel was shot down on 1.09.39 by Bf 110 from the I./ZG 1. Crew members bailed out and were taken PoW.

Thanks Recceswind

But that's not the correct date, nor the incident that I have noted.

Hopefully someone else may have information.

Cheers
Brian

Zerstörer = destroyer (aircraft, e.g. Bf 110; warship, e.g. Z1 Leberecht Maaß) - which one "destroyer" do you mean?

As far as I know 2.(H)/21 was a sole German unit using Hs 126 and flying in that area.

On September 2, 1939 a single Heinkel He 60D (W.Nr. 1463) was lost in the area of Danziger Bucht/Gdansk Bay (Pillau).

Recceswind,

What is your source for the first name of Schmidt? We have the same info as you (as Robert notes), but didn't have Schmidt's first name. Where did you get this info?

Regards,

Brian - what is the source of your claim??

Larry - in my notes I have Olt. Heinz Rehdanz (wounded - 4 bullets in his leg) and Lt.(!?) Wilhelm Schmidt whom were captured by posterunkowy Jan Dula but I can not find (or recall) the original source of this information!!

All the best,
Andrzej

Andrezej,

Thanks for your further comments. What is the meaning of the word "posterunkowy?" Is this a mailman or something?

Regards,

Larry,

posterunkowy = constable (in Police)

Hope it helps,
