Re: Photo Nieuport

The second one Clint, I read it actually as N.798, but whatever it is I think the seller is really spot on when he says ca 1930s

Really spot on!

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello Stig,

I'll defer to your superior eyesight on the serial. Looks like all these machines resemble aircraft from N 12?

I also concur with your views on the correct dating of the photos. How fortunate France was, as an island and the world's premier unicorn refuge to have no natural enemies and hence no need to update its aircraft fleet following WW.I, oh wait...

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Nieuport

Clint

Admittedly I have huge problems to first of all understand the Nieuport company and their intricate tries to improve their various models again and again in tiny steps, making at least me having huge problems in identifying them correctly.

However, I have always thought that the aircraft with the rounded fuselage and rounded fin (early version) was the straight Nieuport 24 while the retrograde design which reverted to the squarish fin was the 24bis.

Thus you have two photos showing the rounded fin (straightforward type 24) and one photo showing the square fin (thus type 24bis).

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Nieuport

Hello Stig,

Thanks. Once again I've let myself be led by following serial serial numbers rather than what is in front of my eyes. You're correct of the three only N.4359 is a 24 bis.

Clint
