Allied losses on 09/07/1943 in Sicily
Hi guys
That day,who can complete my info Two A-36 lost in Taormina (Time?) I found only one of 27°FBG (Time?) Four A-20 lost (47°BG??) Time? Four P-40 of 324°FG (Time?) -Capt.Don B M Wood -2lt Warren McHenry -Lt W S Buchanan -pilot? P-40 "Brittle II" Others?? Thanks in advance Michel |

9th of July:
A-20B Havoc 41-3425 of 97th BS, 47th BG. 1/Lt Irvin E Artz and crew all KIA is attributed to Fw. Helmut Kuehl of 9./JG 53. Claim at 0740. At 1112, the same pilot claimed Boston FA298 of 223 sqn. F/O Anthony Kent Biggs RAAF and crew all KIA |

OK, 9th July,1943 A-36 42-83573 - 27BG - 16BS - MACR 37 - Eichenlaub. P40 41-19994 - 324FG - 316FS - MACR 47 - Dempsey. 41-14231 - 324FS - 316FS - MACR48 - Chalked. 41-14268 - 324FG - 316FS - MACR 49 - Selig. 41-19757 - 324FG - 316FS - MACR 50 - Carpenter. A20 41-3425 - 47BG - 97BS - MACR 103A - Artz. 41-3250 - 47BG - 97BS MACR 103B - Smith. 10th July 1943 A-36 42-83817 - 27BG - 91BS - MACR 107 - Thompson. However from what I understand none of the names you gave are connected to any of the above losses. Wood was 8th July 43. P40 42-10460 - 324FG - 315 FS - MACR 62. According to B.Cull and Cie (Spit over Sicily) four A-20 were lost and two A-36 (one belonging to 86°FBG??) An Italian source (M.Mattioli) quotes the pilot parachuted from the P-40 "Brittle II" and the P-40 41-19736 (316°Fsq) severely damaged (Lt Buchanan) and scrapped (the 08/07 or 09/07 ?? it does not seem very clear! For three of the 324th Fighter Group losses on July 9, 1943, the MACR's give Capt. Robert C. Dempsey as 11:00 hours, Capt. David E. Carpenter at 11:00 hours and Lt. Charles L. Chalker (not Chalked) at 0730 hours.

Fourth 324th loss on July 9, 1943, Lt. Emile J. Selig, Jr., time given as 0730 hours and he was in 41-14288 (not -268).
