Do-24 shoots down swedish J20
Hello!
On the 3rd of April, 1945, at 12.27, a Swedish J20 ( Reggiane Re 2000 Falco I) was shot down by a german Do-24. This happened just outside the north-eastern part of Skane, southern Sweden. The Swedish pilot, furir Erik Nordlund , had instructions to turn the intruder away from Swedish territory. Another J20, flown by kadett Sven Brise, started minutes later, because of motor problems, and arrived only to see the smoke from the crash site. Nordlund dead. Brise managed to chase away the Do-24 without any further shooting. Now, I’ve been talking to Sven Brise, who is very much alive and well, asking him about the german sea-plane, he identified it as a Do-24, grey-painted , at least on the upper side, and that’s all. In another Forum somebody suggested it could have belonged to the Seenotgruppe 81. So, my question to the eminently knowledgable experts in this Forum would be to help shed some light on this incident. Can we find out which Do-24 it was, about the crew, and what its mission was, flying (almost daily, if not the same plane, according to Brise) over Swedish territory, and this so close to the end of the war. Were they looking for german refugees coming over the sea or fugitives trying to leave the Vaterland…? Anyway, Erik Nordlund is the only Swedish pilot who lost his life over Swedish territory due to fighting in the air. Hoping for help in this matter. Friendly yours Hans Krensler |
