Re: N° 23 squadron July 1943

Alain,

CWGC has F/O (Instr.) Peter William Stokes with date of death 13/08/1943.
Buried in Shropshire.
Perhaps related to crash of Mosquito NFII with regi DD630 of 60 OTU which crashed at High Ercall, also in Shropshire.
Wasn't 23 Squuadron flying that type as well around that time?

Groet,

Leendert

Alain,

Found Sgt Martin Gerard MacManus (995674) in the Supplement to the London Gazette of 23 July 1943 as the recipient of a Distinguished Flying Medal.

No specific explanation is given, but the above award is for gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations.

Groet,

Leendert

Hi Leendert ,

Found out on other forum that Stokes made an unauthorised flight with his wife in Mosquito DD630.
Thanks anyway.
