Crash of a Lancaster in August/September1943

Hello!

I'm looking for informations of the crash of a Lancaster in the near of my home-village. I've a few photos of the crash-site. It crashed between the villages of Volmunster (France), Ormersviller (F) and Brenschelbach (Germany). Sorry for my bad english!

Kind regard

Hi,

As this was probably quite a big incident in your town, is there anything written down in the town's records to indicate the exact date. There were approximately 129 lancasters lost in those two months!

All the best, David.

I've talked to many witnesses of the crash. But nobody could remember the exact date. It must have been between the 19.08. and 19.09.1943.

Considering the time frame, the crash place and the fact that some other planes crashed in that bigger area around Pirmasens-Saarbrücken
this crew probably was lost on a mission to target MANNHEIM and should be one of these:

There are some in these reports without a given crashplace, maybe one of those?
Stirling/Halifax not an option???

bye, good luck,

What makes you so sure, that the aircraft was Lancaster in 1943 and not another a/c of the Bomber Command ?

All the best !

Re: Crash of a Lancaster in August/September1943

Hello!

I think it was a Lancaster, because of the window in the cockade. Only the Lancaster has this window. Was there a Lancaster which crashed on its 10th mission in this space of time?

Photo number 2 of post 2: On the right side of the cockade, could that be a part of a letter?
