Flare gun question
In the Bf109, did the pilot put his flare gun he carried in the chute when he got in the a/c and leave it there til he got out of the a/c?

Re: Flare gun question
mmmmmmmmmmmm...the flare gun was attached and secured with a Butterfly Nut inside the flare port tube. When used inside the aircraft, it was used to signal other fighters...when kept in his suit, it was to be used for emergencies to signal for help.
There is a mount for the flare gun inside the cockpit, on the starboard side, right next to the seat, when not attached to the flare port. My feeling is there was two...one that was kept inside the cockpit...and the other in his flying suit. Would hate to have one attached to the port, get shot at, and have to unscrew/remove the one from the port to take with me before I bail out. Mike |
