RAF Honington 19 August 1940

Hi guys

RAF Honington was bombed by a single He111 at 16:15 on 19 August 1940, and again by a single Do17 at 20:20. At least five airmen were killed and ten wounded - but were they all casualties of the first raid?

The Heinkel was believed to have been an aircraft of 7./KG27, which was later shot down by Spitfires of 66 Squadron from Coltishall, but not before return fire had brought down one of the attackers.

Can anyone confirm this version? Has anyone a post raid report?

Cheers
Brian

I will have all of the casualties if that helps but KG 27 operated much further west-they would have not flown over southern England to attack a target in Luftflotte 2's AOR. Reference to BofB CA will help you with this

9./KG 27 aircraft was lost attacking Liverpool night of 18-19 Aug 40and came down in the sea nowhere near North Sea. Studd was lost attacking a Do 17 of 7./KG 2 1845 hrs which came down in the sea off Aldeburgh. Its target was Honington. All the casualties (5 killed and 11 injured) occurred at 1615 hrs. Luftwaffe reported attacking Feltwell at this time, no mention of Honington
