North Sea 8 Oct 44

There was quite a bit of air-sea rescue activity this day-I have the loss of a Warwick of 280 Sqn but what else might have come down on 7 & 8 October 1944 to generate this activity? Possibly an American crew?

Re: North Sea 8 Oct 44

On the 7th the 8th AF was quite active. Ruhland, Pölitz, Bohlen, Magdeburg and Kassel included

Half the airforce seems to have headed for Sweden (slight exaggeration). Ignoring the Baltic

43-38529 B-17 457BG ditched in North Sea - rescued
43-6719 P-51 4FG pilot b/o - picked up ASR launch
44-14555 P-51 479FG engine cut, baled out - picked up ASR launch
44-14577 P-51 479FG came down off Schouwen - came ashore Holland

8th October - quiet day for 8th AF

Nothing obvious for 9th AF on either day

Martin

Re: North Sea 8 Oct 44

Thanks very much Martin. I should also add that there were two III./KG 3 crews lost in the same period.
