Fokker G1B FFS C8
The above flew with this unit-the codes are either OF+OQ/DF+OQ. Can anyone please tell me about this ac?

Assuming we are talking about the same airplane, the correct code is DE+OQ. It appears to have been painted all-over RLM 02 with full standard-size Luftwaffe markings.
The late Jan v/d Heuvel once gave me a photo of it, which is said to have been taken at Wiener-Neustadt. The photo was taken from underneath the starboard wing of a KG 51 Ju 88 (9K code).

Stkz.De say it was with FFS (C) 8 in 05/41, and from Philipp LIENERT Flugbuch, its was still there on 12/08/41. Best regards. Eric |

Please remember, the type designation "G-1B" was an afterthought which was first used by well known Dutch author Bart van der Klaauw.
Fokker did not use this type designation. The correct type name is Fokker G.I (G dot Roman I) Wasp. This is the two seater variant, while the three seater variant with Bristol Mercury engines was simply known as Fokker G.I (G dot Roman 1) Mercury. btw. I could not use a dot in my username so my name should be G.Ireaper ;-) |

In reality it was not very consistent either. There are Fokker drawings and reports with "G I", "G-I", "GI", "G 1", "G-1" and "G1" to be found, and also "G-I wasp" (no caps on Wasp). Ironically it's the dot that seems to be rarest! A pre-war(?) French brochure labels it G.l "MERCURY" VIII (the 1 could be Roman or Arabic, it's just a stripe). Stencils on the vertical tail also say "G l" (undefined 1 or I).
Fokker D XXI drawings and documents show more consistency, either written as "D XXI" or "D.XXI" (even Fokker D XXI m/Mercury VIII; m/ for "met" = "with"), although a 1939 handbook uses "D21" and Fokker advertised it as the "D.21" both in publications as on the AVIA aviation exhibition! Stencils on the vertical tail say "D XXI" (clear Roman 1). The inconsistent use of dots, periods and hyphens continued until Fokker's demise in the 1990s, but at least the Roman numbers were dropped in favour of Arabic numerals.
