Ju88 lost or damaged NE Sardinia 17 November 1943

On this date Capt. Gabriel Gauthier of GCII/7 attacked a Ju88, setting one of it's engines on fire, and seeing bits of metal fall from it before it made cloud cover. In the Decot brothers "Pilotes Francais sur L'Afrique..." they postulate that it may have fallen NE of Sardinia near the island of Asinara.

Were any Ju88s (or anything similar) lost on this date?

regards

Keith

The Luftwaffe loss reports for Nov. 1943 are free to view or download at the Bundesarchiv:
RL 2-III/1194 (3. Okt–2. Nov. 43)
RL 2-III/1195 (3. Nov–2. Dez. 43)
Ju 88-equipped reconnaissance units in Italy at the time were 1.(F)/123, Stab (F)/122 and Wekusta 26. 2.(F)/122 had mostly gone over Me 410s but still had a couple of Ju 88s.

Andy Mitchell's FAGr. 122 diary for November 1943 is here: https://www.luftwaffedata.co.uk/inde...._122_Nov_1943

Thanks Nick. Based on the discussion on the forum in 2015, and FAGr.122 site you mention neither list a lost on this date. By the process of elimination this would point to Wekusta 26, but I think we can all agree that's too simplistic. The Ju88 probably made it home, or the crew survived unharmed.

I tried the links you gave but could not access information. It reports no hits.

Gauthier had misidentified a Me410 of 1(f)/122 as a Ju88 on 30 September 1943. The Me410 was lost, but Gauthier claimed only a "damaged".
