Gauthier and Bf109 2/NAGr-13 27 February 1945

FW Hase,2/NAGr-13 (Reich Def) Bf 109G-6 Werk # 230816 KIA 27 February, 1945 during aerial combat near Gutach.

I wonder if this is the Bf109 claimed by Cne Gauthier on this date? He shoots down one of two Bf109 encountered near Horb.

Re: Gauthier and Bf109 2/NAGr-13 27 February 1945

Hello Keith,

Haase was not the victim of Gauthier but of Capitaine Wagner who made a Claim not bei Horb but near Oberhamersbach, which is not far away from Gutach.

2./NAGr. 13 / Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 / # 230816 / Reconnaissance Flight / / Dogfight with Spitfire - Capitaine Wagner - GC 2/7 - Nice / Crashed near the „Prechtaler Schanze“, southwest of Gutach/Black Forrest (Baden-Württemberg) - Germany / Fahnenjunker-Feldwebel Wolfram Sigurd Haase / Bailed out - approached and shot at by Spitfire pilot while hanging on Parachute - killed. According to the French post-war version, parachute jump - parachute not open - KIA. Eyewitnesses report, however, that the Fahnenjunker was approached by a Spitfire and shot

A further Bf 109 was shot at by three Spitfires of the same Group and make a crashlanding near Villingen, which is not far awy from Horb. Claimants in this case were Lieutenant Prunget, Sergent Roussel and Capitaine Gauthier (all three 0,333 Portion)
Cheers

Fred

Cheers Fred. I assume the Bf109 shot down by Gauthier (and others) was also from 2/NAGr.13. I assume the pilot is unidentified?

According to Decot it was only after Gauthier delivered the final burst that the pilot bailed out safely and the Bf109 crashed in fields south of Horb.

Decot seems to indicate that Jeandet (rather than Wagner) delivered the final burst and that the Bf109 crashed at Ober-Harmersbach.

In both cases the pilot baled out but as you say the pilot from the Jeandet/Wagner Bf109 suffered when his parachute caught fire.
