Re: Stalingrad order fo battle

Hi,

also I/JG53 took part in Battle over Stalingrad. From May`42 to Oktober`42. Alltogether the unit claimed some 918 victories and lost 26 pilots (2 KIA, 14 MIA, 2 POW, 8 WIA).

Re: Stalingrad order of battle

Oxley, I managed to extract info for JG3, JG52 and JG53, but I have a problem with JG77: I looked at all JG77 units and between august and december 1942 none of them were present at Stalingrad (they were South of Stalingrad in Caucasus). Can you please direct me to a source where it says JG77 was present at Stalingrad ?

PS: is Krasnogwardeisk an airfield near Stalingrad ? it is the only one I wasn;t able to locate.

Hi,

Krasnogwardeisk and Siwerskaja were south west of Leningrad.

Re: Stalingrad order of battle

The information I posted is available in the book "The Luftwaffe Data Book", by Alfred Price.

It shows the OOB of Fighter Units in Luftwaffe 4 (as listed above) as of 27 July, 1942, at the start of the Summer Offensive. It wouldn't hold necessarily for the whole of the period you are looking at.

Re: Stalingrad order of battle

The order of battle of the Lw in july 1942 published in "The Luftaffe data book" includes I and II/JG54 in both Luftflotte 1 and Luftwaffenkommando Ost.
The number of Bf.109 operated is different:
Luftflotte 1
I./JG 54 40 - 25
II./JG 54 40-28

Luftwaffenkommando Ost

I./JG 54 43- 27
II./JG 54 40-33

What's wrong?

Thanks.
