Hi Frederik,
indeed ETIS = European Theatre Intelligence School. ETIS was inaugurated January 1946 in Oberammergau, providing schooling and training for CIC (Counter-Intelligence Corps {"Spionageabwehr" in German} [of the US military]) agents.

Also, yes, the date (particularly the year!) is not clearly readable. But "46" seems to be correct.

Another earlier?/ later? condition photo of the same scene is this:

The above source states "... the prototype P.1101 and a Me-109 [sic] were found in Building 615 now housing the Manfred Woerner Lecture Hall...". I think what the GI meant by "theater" was a lecture hall.

Hi Jim,

Thank you very much. I have long been interested in this subject, and the immediate post-War period. A complete history of the CIC has yet to be written, as well as what the French and British did with captured material. I do have a rough idea of what was captured but there appears to have been a rivalry between the Allies going on in the various occupation zones.

Regards,

Ed West

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

It's a Ju 188A-2 U5+KH from 1./KG 2, left behind damaged at Couvron.

On this album we could see a lot of planes , P 47 , with "tail off", as there were damaged to avoid capture;;;by the germans...???

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

I assume that was done by the Americans themselves. After the war, many planes were scrapped since there was no need for such a large number of them anymore.
