Re: 16 SFTS RAF Newton
Hi,
Here`s what I have found in 16 SFTS ORB: 25/7/42 - Oxford (no serial number given) crashed near Saxondale cross roads. Cpl Malczynski killed. Multiple fractures of the skull. 25/5/43 - Master III 8540 crashed near Arnold, Notts. LAC Mroczek killed. 7/7/43 - Master III W8706 crashed. LAC Gorski killed. 2/9/43 - Master (no details of the crash in 16 SFTS ORB) 24/25/2/44 - Master DM283 crashed one mile south of Stapleford. LAC Sierzega killed. 25/3/44 - Master II DL938 crashed on the aerodrome at approx. 11.25 hrs. P/O Szwede and Sgt Brown (British) died instantly due to multiple injuries. 12/5/44 - Oxford 965 totally wrecked in collision with Oxford I LW915. F/L Peski killed. The pilot of the second Oxford LW915 AC2 Miernik uninjured. 16/6/44 U/Kn (no accident recorded with that date in 16 SFTS ORB. The only fatal crash in June 1944 took place on 9/6/1944) 19/7/44 - Oxford I PG994 crashed near Normanton. W/O Mierniczek, F/Sgt Koper and AC2 Tomaszewski killed. 12/10/44 - Master II DM424 caught fire in cockpit after carrying out "overshoot" at Tollerton and dived to the ground killing AC2 Maciula instantly. Hopefully you will find it useful. Regards, Greg Last edited by Gregor30; 26th February 2018 at 08:23. Reason: Some typos. |

Re: 16 SFTS RAF Newton
Hello,
25/5/43 - 792593 LAC Euzebiusz MROCZEK was aboard Master III W8450, not W8540. Col. |

Re: 16 SFTS RAF Newton
Col.
Then it must be an error in 16 SFTS ORB. Greg |

Re: 16 SFTS RAF Newton
Hello Col,
As I understood it this was a ground accident so not a "crash" ? In which case would it have warented an entry into the ORB ? Or just an entry into an appendix ? Alex |

Alex
Col is correct. W8450 was a night time accident where poor Mroczek (no doubt lost) unluckily hit a tree when trying to force land at Coppice Road, Arnold, Notts. Gregor Yes the compiler of 16 SFTS no doubt suffered (as so many others) from fingertrouble and wrote W8540 (which was a black out serial and did not exist) instead of W8450. B Rgds Stig |

Sorry for checking this so late, but 19/7/44 is a puzzle The Oxford P9994 is a serial which all my sources says was canx. Do you mean another serial or do you have something I don't have?? Cheers Stig |
