Re: eBay: Walter Ditsch + 01-05-42

Hi,

Looking through Chris Shores Mediterranean Air War volume 2 he states very limited Luftwaffe losses for 1st May 1942.

Can anyone confirm if Ditsch was killed member of KGrzbV 400 crew or part of 1/LG 1 Ju 88 crew of L1+TL with Uffz. Kurt Beer?

Thanks

Rick

Re: eBay: Walter Ditsch + 01-05-42

Ditsch was not with Uffz Kurt Beer:
1942-05-01, 3./LG 1, Ju 88 A-4, 142035, L1+TL, Hart nordöstlich Port Said
Flugzeugführer Uffz Beer, Kurt, vermißt
Beobachter Ogfr Gebhard, Herbert, vermißt
Bordfunker Ogfr Fechner, Herbert, vermißt
Bordschütze Uffz Schulz, Heinz, vermißt
Unbekannt um 03.00 Uhr. Bruch 100 %.
It is possible that he was with this:
1942-05-01, 1./KGr.z.b.V. 400, Ju 52/3m, 40 km nördlich Agedabia
Beobachter Uffz Tenner, Ernst, verletzt
Bordschütze Ogfr Müller, Franz, +
Jägerbeschuß. Bruch ? %.

Ditsch belonged to Sonder.Kdo Ju 52 MS (1./Minensuch-Gr. 1 d.Lw.) and was killed "Bei Aetna/Bengasi" on 1 May 1942.

Was this a mine searching unit?

Was his aircraft shot down?

Yes, Minensuch means mine searching or minesweeping (Google translator) and no, I don't know how he was killed. I am not keeping any info hiding in my closet. If I don't tell something, I don't have that info.

Re: eBay: Walter Ditsch + 01-05-42

Hello,

On page 48 of Heinz Nowarra's, Minensuchgruppe Mausi mit der Tante Ju in den Kampfeinsatz (Flugzeug Publikations, 1995), there appears a photograph depicting two graves in the Western Desert. One cross is marked Flugzeugfuhrer Fw. Walter Ditsch, the other, Bordmechaniker Uffz Richard Lachmann. Both crosses have the emblem of Minensuchgruppe 1 on them, The other details on the crosses are difficult to make out, but the picture caption reads: Sie fielen in Einsatz mit Ju 52/MS in NordAfrika.

Any comments?

Col.
