Data Plates Exposed #12: Fw 190A-4

Haven’t done one of these threads in a while (#11 was 7/06!). Since no Fw 190 plates were shown previously, let's resume with a truly classic aircraft.

This plate surfaced just recently. It had been “tucked away” since being removed from aircraft debris in a scrap yard in Limburg (Netherlands) in 1952. Yes, 1952!

Thanks to “tango35” (Thomas) and, in particular, Andrew Arthy, this much of the aircraft’s earlier history was revealed. W.Nr. 198 (or 0 147 198), a Fw 190A-4/U8, was built by Fieseler (Kassel - B) in 1942. It suffered 20 percent damage on 18 September 1943 at Tours airfield, France, while serving with the Erg.Staffel of Schnellkampfgeschwader 10.

What else can be said about this aircraft and its eventual journey to Limburg?

Best regards,
Steve

Re: Data Plates Exposed #12: Fw 190A-4

I found spurs of the 147198 by JG26 on Sept. 1944, release to Ostheim, during 1944/45 we could find a pretty good batch of the serie 7000 in JGr.West/Süd nd Ost, but not the 7198...

Remi,

Do I understand correctly that 147198 itself was with JG26 in Sept. 1944 at Ostheim, and that, at the same time and later, other 7xxx series 190s were in use with JG units in various other locations?

Thank you,
Steve

You hv fully understood, these planes are quite old ones for the 1944, front units hv them second half of 1942, then passed to training units, why this one was with JG26 in sept. 1944 ??, I don't know

Serie seems to be complete from 7000 to 7200 , first ones A-3 models, 72++ were A-5

Guys
Could it be that this A-4 was brought up to newer / later standard and then returned to the frontline? There's another discussion HERE that mentions similar situation too.
At the end of the war there were few early machines out there that seemed like being used by frontline units till the last days.

JG 26 did not have any Fw 190A-4s on charge in September 1944. Oddly enough, however, one (1) Fw 190A-5 was on charge with II./JG 26 in
September 1944. It was given up owing to enemy action in the course
of the month, leaving I. and II./JG 26 with Fw 190A-8s and A-9s only in October.
