Hampden P4324 QR-P
When this Hampden became lost and landed on the beach at Vlieland, Holland on 26th / 27th August 1940, one of the crew members who was captured was Michael Joseph Joyce, who was a cousin of 'Lord Haw Haw'. Michael Joyce worked for the Germans for nearly two years before escaping via Spain in October 1942 and I'd like to find out more details of his German service. I seem to remember there was an article on this in Britain at War or Flypast but I cannot recall which issue. Can anyone supply more details on this or Michael Joyce's work for the Abwehr?

Re: Hampden P4324 QR-P
Hello,
A summary of Michael Joyce's activities whilst a "Guest" of the Third Reich, can be found in Oliver Clutton-Brock's, "Footsteps On The Sands Of Time", Chapter 16, Traitors and Collaborators, 1940-1945 (pp.183-5). Col. |

Re: Hampden P4324 QR-P
Hello,
See also: Peter Tunstall's (Joyce's pilot), autobiography, "The Last Escaper" (London: Duckworth Overlook,2014. pp.11, 13, 15-18, 93, 95 102, 105, 307-10 & 313). He has some pertinent things to say on Joyce. Col. |

Re: Hampden P4324 QR-P
Attached is a photo of the Hampden P4324 QR-P being prepared by the Luftwaffe for a flight back to Germany in August 1940.
Does anyone know what happened to it after this?
