Plane Crash Dötlingen April 1945
Hello!
During my work on the end of the war in 1945 in my homeland (Dötlingen/Niedersachsen) I came across a plane crash of an Allied plane near Birkenbusch/Dötlingen (about 40 km southwest of Bremen) in April 1945. Unfortunately, there is no aircraft type or exact date. A memorial stone was later erected at the crash site. Can anyone help? Thank you very much Karsten Last edited by Dötlingen 1961; 21st January 2020 at 17:29. |

Re: Plane Crash Dötlingen April 1945
I now have more information about this crash. It was a single-seat English fighter aircraft. The exact date was April 4, 1945. The soldier was first buried at the site of the crash and later reburied.

Re: Plane Crash Dötlingen April 1945
Hello,
I have a question about the crash of F/O Halliwell on April 4th, 1945 in our community. In the war diary of the 274th SQ, “MET“ is repeatedly written in attacks on trains. What does "MET" mean? All the best, Karsten |

Karsten,
The wonderful work "2nd TAF - volume 3" do say this machine was lost (probably to Flak) whilst attacking a train near Bremen. Serial was NV660. Probable time was around 14:15hs. Page 476 of the "Opus" quoted above. Hope this will be of assistance and help. Adriano |

Karsten,
Is the grave still nearby your town or was it moved to a Central RAF Military graveyard? A. |

We did a long thread on Halliwell previously, with the same title as this thread.

Re: Plane Crash Dötlingen April 1945
Hello
The crash took place because Halliwell touched a locomotive a telephone line at the shelling. This emerges from eyewitness reports. I spoke to 2 people who confirmed this messer. Karsten |
