Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer 730442 - Any info?
The title says it all - Is there any info about the service life of this plane? All I have is that it must have been completed in May/June 1944 at AGO's Oschersleben plant.

No direct record, but the ones around it were assigned to JGs 2 and 26

Re: Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer 730442 - Any info?
A photo of this plane in an abandoned state is currently on sale on ebay. The Werknummer isn't legible on the scan, but the seller told me he reads 730442. As the plane wears an interesting scheme I was interested in its service history, so I asked whether there is any info.
I will post the link when the bidding has ended. (*selfish wink) Christian EDIT: It has ended: That's the a/c in question (with a belated thanks to Ed West): http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWAX:IT Last edited by ChristianK; 24th January 2010 at 01:15. |

I have the W.Nr. 730442 as an A-8/R-6 St.kz. SH+UE delivered spring/summer of 1944 (this series was begun in April 1944) by Ago Oschersleben (jhe).

Seems to have had an overpainted four-letter code with small Geschwader identification code and last letter "H" (1.St.)

Re: Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer 730442 - Any info?
Hello all,
I think I recognize your Fw 190, “4+ Black.” I have in my collection another photograph of it from a WWII veteran. Comparison of your photo confirms that it is the same. The veteran told me his photos were taken near Regensburg. Other of his photos, taken in the same collection of aircraft, illustrate single and two-seater Bf 109 trainers with high-digit numerals on their cowlings, and a lone Bf 109 K-4. I published two of these photos AIRFOIL #1. Can you confirm that 730442 is the correct Werknummer for this aircraft? Steve Sheflin |

Re: Fw 190 A-8 Werknummer 730442 - Any info?
Hello Steve,
As said, I asked the seller and he told me it "looks like" 730442. Unfortunately he set his watermark exactly on this spot, but from what I see the Werknummer should be easily readable on the original photo. Even I can decypher "730xx2" from the small photo presented on ebay. So the Werknummer is not confirmed to the last extent, but I would tend to believe the seller. Would you mind showing us the other photo of this plane from your collection? Kind regards, Christian |

Christian,
Yes, I will post my photo ASAP. First, however, I need to purchase a scanner. My life has been messed up for a while, but I will get going soon. Steve Sheflin |

Ok, thank you Steve, I am looking forward to it. In the meantime, does your photo show whether this aircraft carried a spinner spiral or not?
