LW losses 1939 through August 1940

I'm trying to reconstruct the LW losses for the 1939 through August 1940 time frame using a very poor quality microfilm and various secondary sources - Fledgling Eagles, 12 Days in May, Battle Over Britain, Battle of Britain Then and Now, various Prien books and KG histories (LG 1, KG 27, KG 51, etc, etc) and of the course the listings in the more recent Verband (which illustrate to a degree how bad the quality of the film is as well as how little info was recorded at that point in the war).

Are there any other books/sources that you guys would recommend to assist in the process to flesh out or add to the listing?

Jim
I have a translation of LFl.3 daily summaries for the BoB period. They may be of help, but they have some errors as well.
As to Polish campaign, I have some summaries but I think you have them as well. A few losses are mentioned in Polish documets. Emmerling's books contain a lot of valuable informations but there are no tables of all losses, just only 60+%. Something may be extracted from the text but it would be hard without knowledge of Polish. My opinions about reliability you may read in the locked thread.
Hope this helps.

As for losses taking place in France, POW interrogation reports exist in the French archives for part of them in this period and give crew names. I planned in the past to study them but never found the time.

Gillet's books (in French) about the French victoires in May-June 1940 gives details of every aircraft known shot down by the Armée de l'Air, with full crew names and codes and/or Wnr when known (so rather rarely).

Re: LW losses 1939 through August 1940

Jim,

Two more recommended resources for the French and Belgian campaigns, both by Pierre Watteeuw:
  • Avions Hors Serie No.10 "Les pertes de la chasse de jour allemande en France, Vol. 1: Sep 1939 - Dec 1940", Editions Lela Presse, ISBN 2-914017-14-6
  • "Les pertes de la chasse allemande de jour en Belgique, tome 1: 1940-1942", De Krijger
FYI, also available is Avions Hors Serie No.15, which is the follow-up to No.10 above. It covers 1941.

Jim have you tried the Unfalle, medical version ? They do not give a precise date but list WkNr (usualy) and model and detail of the accident for a given month.
