Luftwaffe Krieg Tag Buch

Hi everyone.

It may seem like a silly question but did the Fliegerkorps headquarters keep KTBs for day to day operations? If so, where would be found ? In the BA/MA ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Luftwaffe Krieg Tag Buch

Use the correct designation "Kriegstagebuch". This will provide you with better search results.

And the answer to your questions is yes, they kept KTB during the war, but most have disappeared.

You can find a list of what is available in German archives at http://www.lwag.org/reference/barl001.pdf. Korps level is page 12-15.

Interesting. Were they destroyed at the end of the war or did they disappear into someone's attic ?

Thanks for the input from all of you

Re: Luftwaffe Krieg Tag Buch

I can only give a partial answer. As I have been told, most Luftwaffe documents were destroyed toward the close of the war. However, some have been kept by families, like award documents, flugbuch (airman's log book) and other additional documents which have appeared over the years. And some documents are held at the archive at the BA-MA in Freiburg, Germany. So researchers have been spending years collecting whatever information they can find, including personal documents and accounts, and searching in archives in other countries to complete as much of the missing parts of the puzzle as possible. Plus, I have heard there are 'private collections' which are being held for unknown reasons.

Re: Luftwaffe Krieg Tag Buch

Hi Michael,

Records from the Fliegerkorps level can be found at the BA-MA in RL 8. See: https://www.archivportal-d.de/objekt...set=0&rows=100. Other reports can be found at NARA, TsAMO, and in HW 5 ULTRA from the NA. Luftflotte records are in BA-MA RL 7.

I hope work on the article is going well!

Cheers,
Andrew A.
