W. Nr. 2407 was an E-3 built by GWF.

Re: Lt. Hermann Kroll and Oblt. Josef Peteani of 7(F)/LG2
Hello Nikita,
in the quoted primary source the loss date is 12 Sep 1942, the cause of the loss is unknown. In the Bundesarchiv version of the loss return is the handwritten amendment "loss category 1" = vermisst durch Feindeinwirkung auf Feindflug (Totalverlust)/missing due to enemy action on operational flight (destroyed). Regards Leo |

Hello Nikita! Pics of Peteani and Kroll and Kroll's grave at Cannock Chase Cemetary in England. You have Kroll's loss details?

Thank you! Much appreciated! I do not have Kroll's loss details, as focusing on his and Peteani efforts during race for Stalingrad within August-September 1942. It seems that 7.(H)/LG2 activities and successes are underestimated somehow. |

Re: Lt. Hermann Kroll and Oblt. Josef Peteani of 7(F)/LG2
One reason why Kroll got the Knights Cross was that he shot down 19 (!) russian aircraft. As a recon pilot flying Bf110 a very unusual success!
Peteani has shot down 9 aircraft and destroyed 13 on ground. Another later Knights Cross holder flew in 7./LG 2 1940-42 as an observer: Helmut Eberspächer. |
