A Fw 200 Z at airfield Eleusis

Dear friends,

i recently received this pic with this Fw 200 Z at Eleusis airfield with the remark, the plane would belong (end 1941) to Lehrgeschwader 1. Is this possible?

regards
Byron

FW 200 Z? KG 40 carried out a number of resupply missions towards the end of 1942 up to mid-1943. LG 1 did not fly the FW 200

If your question is did it belong to LG 1, the answer is no. As to the date, it is possible that I/KG 40 was flying missions in the Med in 1941 but where do you get the date from as from Oct 1942 there were quite a number in the Med for the reasons I have just quoted

Re: A Fw 200 Z at airfield Eleusis

It was planned to convert parts of the Fw 200 from KG 40 to torpedo carriers. Basic training was performed from Juli to September 1941 at Großenbrode and some practice fligts were done from Eleusis from late August until mid September 1941.

The supply missions by KG 40 to North Africa were performed from bases in Southern Italy from September to December 1941 and from September 1942 until February 1943.

Up to 6 Condors were looked at for torpedo use from April 1941 onwards but this was abandoned in the Summer of 1941. Limited flights were carried out in the Summer of 1941 with losses occurring 5 Sep 41 south of Fleves and another being damaged at Lecce 6 Dec 41. It is not clear is they were engaged on resupply or more normal Condor duties

1/KG 40, FW 200 C-3/U4 Wk Nr 0074 F8+GH (KF+QN). Oblt Horst Neumann plus 5 missing. I have a note that it was missing on a mission to Suez?
