Oblt. Johannes Hager 6./NJG 1

I am looking for any available details on Oblt. Johannes Hager of 6./NJG 1(??) for period of April 22 1944. What aircraft flown, crew, location, photo of him etc anything really please.

I believe Hager shot down a 77 Squadron Halifax (LK710 - KN-S) I am researching on the night of 22/23 April 1944, so would appreciate anything anyone may be able to help me with please.

Many thanks.

Re: Oblt. Johannes Hager 6./NJG 1

I have an original "Abschussmeldung" submitted by Hager for a claim on June 17, 1944. He claimed two victories that night, his 22nd and 23rd.

At that time he was flying an He 219A-0. The supporting docments show his crew as:
Feldwebel von Bergen
Feldwebel Korschgen
Interesting - Pilot and two crewmen. A couple of years ago one of the NASM restorers showed me a third seat - in the lower rear of the fuselage. It was a simple curved piece of plywood. According to him, the third crewman sat there and kept the electronics operating.

There is a photo of Hager on page 99 of Theo Boiten's book "Night Airwar".

I have a partial claim list for Hager from Marcel Hogenhuis. Hager claimed one four engine victory on April 23, 1944 for his 18th victory.

Re: Oblt. Johannes Hager 6./NJG 1

Hager
On the night of 20/21 March 1945 Hager had several claims of downing RAF planes.
One was my uncles B 24 Liberator of the RAF. He was with 223 squadron from RAF Oulton in Norfolk. He was part of 100 group. That night they were dropping window to make it look as if Kassell was he target. The Night Fighter Controller believed this. Sent the Night Fighters to this location. He and his crew were KIA. One will never know how many other lives they saved.
My information is that he was using a Messersmit 110 fitted with strange music. This was upward firing cannons. All he had to do was fire between the wings he was bound to hit something. View wise this was good as he would be looking up in to light. Whereas the gunners would be looking down into darkness.
Alfred Price's book instruments of Darkness covers the entire RAF night ops. The main target was the Bohlen oil plant.
Have not seen Boitens book for a photograph.
Would like info about the crew and photgraphs. Can any one help.
Thanks Rod.

Re: Oblt. Johannes Hager 6./NJG 1

I am also looking for any information on Oblt.Johannes HAGER as my uncle's Halifax was shot down on Nov 1, 1944 in Holland. I was informed by a friend who has done some research in Holland that it may have been HAGER's aircraft. I am aware that a German nightfighter also went down in the area at the same time. I am new to trying to look for information and came across this site. Any help or direction on how to find out anything about the Luftwaffe and any registers of losses etc would be a great help. My uncles Halifax was QB-K and the crew is buried at the Nederweert war cemetery.
